About the Hy Desert Quarry

The quarry is situated in the Rand Mountain Range in the Mojave Desert of California. In the 1890's gold was discovered there. The land where the quarry is located was mined for gold from the 1920's to the 1940's. In 1985 a large deposit of a metamorphic schist was discovered. The claim holder of the land was named Hylas, an old gold prospector. In respect to Hylas, we derived the name "Hy Desert" rustic stone.

Today, the Hy Desert quarry has evolved into a 100 acre operation that produces several grades of a blue-grey or gold colored stone which is hand split for a multitude of applications.
